Two women in science, two exceptional projects, one region – and great recognition
Humanities withstood strong competition: Congratulations to our doctoral students
The Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové is pleased to announce that two doctoral students of the Cultural and Spiritual Studies study program, MUDr. Kristýna Petkov and Mgr. BcA. Hana Bednaříková, were successful in the subsidy program 25INV06 Support for talented scientists of the Hradec Králové Region.
Both students presented exceptional project plans that connect deep professional interest with current social challenges. Their proposals withstood strong competition from projects from all faculties in the Hradec Králové Region – including medical and natural science fields. This success is particularly significant for the field of humanities.

The project “Perioperative patient vulnerability as a challenge for modern medicine” focuses on the existential experience of patients just before general anesthesia. Through philosophical reflection and qualitative research, it aims to contribute to the humanization of healthcare, the development of ethically sensitive communication, and interdisciplinary education of healthcare professionals. The project connects clinical practice with the European philosophical tradition and offers specific outcomes for education and application in the hospital environment.

The project “Face in War” examines the transformation of the religious identity of Czech Jewish women living in Israel and the Czech Republic after the events of October 7, 2023. Through interpretative phenomenological analysis and a philosophical-theological framework, it addresses the issues of faith, responsibility, and resilience in times of crisis. The project brings not only academic outcomes, but also innovative forms of public dialogue – including workshops for schools and performances in public spaces.
“I heartily congratulate both doctoral students on their success in the Hradec Králové Region grant program. Their projects are not only of exceptional professional quality, but they also respond sensitively to current social challenges. I greatly appreciate their work, which connects science, practice and the human dimension of knowledge. I also thank all supervisors and consultants for their support and professional guidance.”
