Each country has its own historical development. There is a geographical focus, center or centers around which events took place. There is no doubt that one of the historical foci of the beginnings of Czech statehood is Central Bohemia. The frequency of archaeological finds is here amazing. Equally striking is the antiquity of local names or the density of fortifications from the so-called fortified period (7th-13th centuries, an archaeological term for the early Middle Ages). Another indicator of historical significance dating back to the beginnings of the formation of the Czech cultural and political identity are the ancient Romanesque and early Gothic churches. It cannot be overlooked that we come across them unusually often in Central Bohemia. However, we were not interested in the dead past of places stored in dusty folios of archives, but in the living presence of the past and its intermingling with the present.
